Historical Operating Areas
Alta Resources, LLC is a private company located in downtown Houston. Founded in 1999, Alta Resources has been a leader in the exploration for and development of shale oil and gas assets from the Fayetteville Shale in Arkansas to the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania. Most recently, Alta was a principal early developer in the liquids-rich Duvernay Shale play in the Kaybob area of Alberta, Canada. Our long-time partners include the late George P. Mitchell, who is widely regarded as the father of shale gas for his pioneering role in developing the Barnett Shale in Texas.
Current PlansAlta is currently seeking to acquire North American shale assets to operate over the long term, and to enhance the value of such assets with our technical expertise.
HistoryAlta has drilled or participated in more than 175 wells in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Pennsylvania and Alberta, Canada with an overall success rate of 95%. Beginning in 2004, Alta became one of the first companies to target shale gas as a leading operator in the Fayetteville Shale in Arkansas. In Arkansas, Alta used its technical talent to identify the best geologic areas to drill for the Fayetteville Shale and leased the second largest land position in the core of the play. Alta's engineers were leaders in developing best drilling and completion practices and drilled horizontal wells with the highest sustained flow rates in the play, performing Arkansas' first simultaneous fracture stimulation. After the sale of the Arkansas assets in 2008, Alta began an aggressive leasing campaign in the Marcellus Shale play in Pennsylvania. Again, Alta's technical talent focused on what was to become the most prolific area of the play in Susquehanna County, PA. Alta sold its Marcellus assets in 2010. In 2011, with financial support from Blackstone Capital Partners, Alta entered the Duvernay Shale in Alberta, Canada with a focus on the Kaybob area. Alta established a premier acreage position in the core, liquids-rich window of the play in Kaybob. Alta closed the sale of its Duvernay operations and assets to Chevron in September 2013.
