About
Alta Resources, LLC is a private company located in downtown Houston. Founded in 1999, Alta Resources has been a leader in the development of shale gas assets from the Fayetteville shale basin in Arkansas to the Marcellus shale field in Pennsylvania. George P. Mitchell, a partner in Alta Resources, is widely regarded as the father of shale gas for his pioneering role in developing the Barnett shale in Texas.History
In the past twelve years, Alta has drilled or participated in more than 175 wells in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Pennsylvania with an overall success rate of 95%. In 2008, Alta experienced significant success in developing the Fayetteville Shale in Arkansas. In Arkansas, Alta used its technical talent to identify the best geologic areas to drill for the Fayetteville, and leased the second largest land position in the core of the play. Alta's engineers were leaders in developing best drilling and completion practices. Alta drilled horizontal wells with the highest sustained flow rates in the play, and performed Arkansas's first simultaneous fracture stimulation. Following the sale of the Arkansas assets, the Alta team began an aggressive leasing campaign in the Marcellus Shale play in Pennsylvania. Again, Alta's technical talent focused on what was to become the most prolific area of the play in Susquehanna County, PA.In 2011, Alta and Blackstone Capital Partners, an affiliate of the Blackstone Group, (NYSE:BX) announced the formation of Alta Energy Partners, and a concurrent commitment to invest up to $1 billion to acquire and develop unconventional oil and gas assets in North America.
